Arthurs Seat State Park

Arthurs Seat State Park is one of the most picturesque locations in the Port Phillip Bay area. The park acquired its name from Arthurs Seat, a 304-metre granite hill from where visitors enjoy a scenic view of the bay’s landscape.

With 24 hour access to the park, it is easy to see why this is a must-visit destination while in the area.

On arrival, one of the best ways to start your day is to walk up the hill to the summit. Atop the hill, you get to soak in the stunning views that are as diverse as they are charming. When the weather is clear, you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the Melbourne city skyline, the You Yangs and Mount Macedon.

Back on the ground at the park, make sure you prepare a barbecue in the beautiful Seawinds Gardens. Botanists will love the mix of indigenous and exotic plants that dot the garden. The sculptures by William Ricketts make for an interesting background. The Seawinds Gardens are also popular for wedding ceremonies and please note that pets are not permitted in the Seawinds Gardens.

For nature lovers, the one hour walk to the famous King Falls makes for an amazing way to spend an afternoon in the outdoors. Other popular short walks include the Arthurs Seat Circuit (1.8km), Kings Falls Circuit (1km), Lookout Hill Circuit (1km) and OT Dam Circuit (3km). There are also two mountain biking tracks at the OT Dam and McLarens Dam. Please keep to those two trails as bikes are not permitted on the walking tracks.

Other amenities present at the state park include cafes and restaurants, picnic sites electric BBQ’s, public toilets and ample parking.

To get to the park from Melbourne, take Mornington Peninsula Freeway 60kms south as well as Arthurs Seat Scenic Road.
