Ashcombe Maze and Lavender Gardens

Ashcombe Maze and Lavender Gardens is one of Melbourne’s most scenic destinations and continues to draw visitors from across the world.

These gardens are located on the Mornington Peninsula and are home to Australia’s most iconic hedge maze which is spread across more than 9 hectares.

The maze consists of 1000 cypress trees and is dotted with hundreds of pathways. At slightly more than 3 metres high, it is easy to see why this maze is a favourite for many. Visitors can challenge themselves to make their way through the winding paths to find each of the four Mozaic flags. Each half of the maze has a different layout, so make sure to challenge yourself through the entire maze. The hedge remains green throughout the year, so there is no best time to visit.

The Lavender gardens boast spectacular rows of lavender flowers. Here, the gardens are planted with annual flowering lavender. There are more than 4000 plants at the Lavender Labyrinth and careful planning ensures that the lavender is in bloom all throughout the year. However, the best time to visit the garden displays is in Spring, around September and October.

While at the gardens, head over to the Ashcombe cafe for a delicious meal or enjoy the famous lavender scones here. All food is prepared on the premises and the cafe is open daily and serves an all-day breakfast.

Look out for the Ashcombe Gift Shop that gives you exclusive access to the garden’s products. These range from gourmet products to jellies, honey and lavender oil products.

Make sure to give yourself at least 1.5 hours to enjoy the maze and gardens and the gardens are open every day (except Christmas Day). Come along in Spring, Summer or Autumn and enjoy the roses in full bloom.

  • Hi Jenny,

Looking at the official website and their Facebook page, it is noted that the cafe is closed for reservation, and since they haven’t mentioned a date anywhere, i would assume that it’s a case of waiting until they announce the reopening – with no estimated date at this point.

It does mention that you can in fact picnic there, but no pets are allowed.

As for pricing, i can’t give you an exact estimate at the group price discount isn’t mentioned on the website. Normally Seniors and Health Care Card Holders are $16.50 each, but it states that groups discounts are available to groups of 10 or more adults with a confirmed booking and to contact them for details.

Since they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, i would suggest calling them on (03) 5989 8387 when they are open and confirm what their price is for your group.

    Thanks
    Michael
