Cinema Nova is an independent art-house movie theatre located in the trendy residential suburb of Carlton, just 5kms from the Melbourne CBD.

Showing many award-winning and lesser-known art-house films since 1992, Cinema Nova is the go-to destination to see culturally significant indie and foreign films on the big screen.

Cinema Nova is well known for screening many local films and exclusive or limited release films. You will also find a huge range of foreign films (with subtitles of course) screened here, and has the biggest range of indie films on show in Victoria.

Cinema Nova also takes part in many of the film festivals held in Melbourne including the Melbourne Queer Film Festival and Transitions Film Festival.

You can get all your candybar favourites here, as well as a few special treats. Alcohol is available for purchase to take into the cinema. After you finish your movie, make sure to grab a delicious Italian meal on the world famous Lygon Street. You can easily get to Cinema Nova via public transport. Simply take a number 3, 3a, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67 or 72 route from the CBD and get off at Melbourne University stop (#1) and walk 300 metres to Lygon Street. Alternatively, take tram route 1 or 8 and get off at Elgin/Lygon Street and walk 100 metres to the theatre. If driving to the cinema, you can park for free at Lygon Court for 2 hours. Payments will incur after this time.
