Monument Park is a work of art right in the heart of the city. The park, previously recognised by its distinct concrete plaza, has since been transformed to provide public space where visitors get to unwind and soak in the beauty of the city.
The sculpture park is home to works by world-renowned artist, Callum Morton in partnership with a number of other organisations. The artist was inspired by the need to use pre-existent monuments so as to add to the city’s beauty. Callum went about covering the monuments using layers of concrete to create a ‘carpet’ like effect. This layer was then eliminated to showcase the vibrant colours and stunning landscape.
Monument Park New Quay Docklands, Opening Hours & Location Map
One of the most interesting things at Monument Park is that amidst the sculptures, tufts of plants seep through as if nature is ostensibly fighting to weave through the cracks. The elevated forms on the concrete surface are cut into in order to create places where visitors can rest and unwind. Overall, the meticulous combination of concrete and verdant greenery makes for a beautiful getaway.
There are many cafes and restaurants around the park where you can grab a quick bite before heading to the park to relax with a good book.
Enjoy the picturesque views overlooking the city and the adjacent harbour for a mellow evening as the sun sets in the horizon. For art lovers, nothing beats a walk across the length of the Newquay Promenade for equally marvellous works of art.
Monument Park is located on Newquay Promenade in Docklands and is easily accessible by public transport.
