The Johnston Collection

The Johnston Collection is a non-profit museum that is home to some of the city’s greatest artefacts, and a must-tour for visitors who appreciate art.

The museum features a reference library, an exhibition house as well as a souvenir shop. The reference library offers an opportunity for visitors to get resource material on artefacts at the museum, as well as a chance to delve deeper in the museum’s history and rich heritage.

The Exhibition house, also referred to as ‘Fairhall’, houses a fantastic collection of art from different eras. Look out for artwork credited to Regency, Louis XV and Georgian. In addition to the artwork, The Johnston Collection also hosts lectures and workshops for interested visitors. The full program is presented by an array of guest speakers. There are also regular special events from time to time, giving you every reason to visit and explore The Johnston Collection.

To visit, you need to make advance bookings, either online or using the museum’s office number. A courtesy bus picks up visitors at select points in East Melbourne. On arrival, visitors are slotted in one of three guided tours very weekday as follows: 10am, 12pm and 2pm. Each tours runs for about 1.5 hours.
