Hanging Rock is Mount Macedon’s most famous landmark and a beautiful place to take a day trip as there are many scenic attractions here.
Hanging Rock is also a popular location for concerts, markets as well as regular horse racing events which draw thousands of visitors each year.

Located near the townships of Woodend and Mount Macedon, there is much to do and explore around Hanging Rock. Walking to the summit takes around 40 minutes with a 3.2km circuit and is considered to be a medium difficulty. There are a number of walking tracks located throughout the Hanging Rock Reserve, as well as a large dam where you can fish. A fishing licence is required.
There is a discovery centre located here as well as expansive lawns and picnic areas which are popular for families and groups to come and spend the day. There are BBQ’s located on site and portable gas BBQ’s are also permitted except for fire-ban days. There is also a cafe located on site where you can sit an enjoy snacks or a full lunch.
You are permitted to bring your dog to the Hanging Rock Reserve, but it must remain leashed at all times. Dogs are not permitted to walk up to the summit as they may disturb the local wildlife.
