The park’s history indicates that people of the Wurundjeri tribe were the original inhabitants of the land. As such, the region’s rich heritage means that the park is of great significance to Wurundjeri people. During the mid-19th century, the land around the park was sold to Thomas Sweeney after whom the park is named. Today, the park’s operations are overseen by Parks Victoria.

Ample parking is available on location. It is important to note that there are no toilet facilities available at Sweeneys Flat and also that for groups with more than 20 people, a permit from the Park Office is required.
