Melbourne Cup Parade

The Melbourne Cup Parade has been axed from the roster for a second post-pandemic year in a row, with organisers promising they have been working hard to bring it back. Ongoing construction for the Metro Tunnel project in the CBD saw the parade scratched in 2023 and now this year as well

In the lead-up to the ‘race that stops the nation’, the City of Melbourne gets in on the festivities each year by hosting the Melbourne Cup Parade.

Celebrate the iconic Cup and the heroes of the sport. A cavalcade will herald the arrival of the final destination for the 2024 Lexus Melbourne Cup Tour – Federation Square.

Melbourne Cup Parade Day 2024, Date, Time & Route, Swanston St

This fun event is FREE, and tens of thousands of people come to see the horses, jockeys and trainers who compete in Australia’s most famous race, the Melbourne Cup.

The Melbourne Cup holds a special place in every Victorian’s heart, so much so that Melbourne Cup Day has been declared a public holiday! As the biggest event of the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, the Melbourne Cup race is held on the first Tuesday of every November.

Free entertainment, lunchtime snacks, photo opportunities with the Melbourne Cup and exclusive performances will round out the day’s festivities.

Complete with a marching band; the Lexus Melbourne Cup Cavalcade will lead a host of racing dignitaries, winning jockeys, and Melbourne Cup-winning Living Legend thoroughbreds across the Princes Bridge and into Federation Square, where the official Cup Bearers will present the 2024 Lexus Melbourne Cup Trophy to the City of Melbourne.

The easiest way to the parade is by public transport. Catch a train to Flinders Street Station, walk up Swanston Street, find a place to settle in, and watch the parade.

    • Hi Richard,

I just did a search and it doesn’t appear that there is an easy to find or official a live stream of the event.

However, since Channel 10 is going to be televising the race and parade for the next 5 years, the event looks to be available via 10play, which is their online streaming service.

Just to make sure it works from overseas before the vent, try viewing https://10play.com.au/live to see if the link works. I know that ABC only allows people within Australia to watch their shows online, so you might have to use a VPN to bypass any kind of geographic blocking.

      Thanks
      Michael
