Set amongst the lively atmosphere of Melbourne’s iconic Queen Victoria Market, experience your Fringe fantasy in this pop-up play space carefully crafted by the Headfirst Acrobats.
With more than 450 events in the Festival, it can be hard to know where to start.
Club Fringe
When the sun goes down, things get a little playful at Club Fringe. Join Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights for Fringe’s wildest high-concept art parties ever.
Get suited and booted for the Fringe Formal and submerge yourself into the swampy marsh with Creatures of the Blak Lagoon. The extra spicy weekend parties mean your end-of-week frivolity is sorted with big tunes, hot art, and heaps of sweaty dancing.
Round out your night on the Fringe with one last stop at Club Fringe, open Fri – Sun ’till late.
Deadly Fringe
Deadly Fringe centres First Nations voices and perspectives, showcasing incredible First Nations talent. Catch some of the very best new First Nations work in the country at Deadly Fringe.
Feminist Events
Fancy a side serve of smashed patriarchy with your Festival?
Check out the Feminist Guide to Fringe for a full banquet of shows and events serving you hot feminist themes through the classic medium of Fringe.
Festival Hub Events
The Festival Hub at Trades Hall is the perfect place to start your night with a show (there are over 100 of every shape and size, playing in over a dozen different rooms and spaces), swap show tips with mates over a drink in the bars (signature cocktails served ice cold), or pop in on the way home for one of their cheeky late-night events (and dance til stumps at Club Fringe).
Out & About Events
Let’s get this show on the road. Literally… Some of these shows will take you down a few different roads actually.
Get up out of your seat and come along for the ride with these outdoor, site-specific and roaming shows that could literally take you on a journey.
This arts and cultural festival features Melbourne artists and many from Australia. So you can expect to see various art forms at the exhibition. Many thriving contemporary art communities also participate in the event.
The Melbourne Fringe Festival also provides support to artists who are participating. In addition, artists get access to a wide array of new artworks by thousands of other experienced artists. Organisers of the festival also help many new artists to represent their exhibitions for the first time.
So many events are being held during the week that it’s impossible to mention them all here. Please check out the official event program for a full list of events, dates, times, venues, ticket types and prices.
Got the 2017 dates yet, please?
G’day Liz,
No dates announced as yet. Check back with us and I will update the Melbourne Fringe Festival page and the 2017 dates once they are announced.
Kind regards,
Jess
We are a secondary school from New Zealand. We are keen to watch and/or perform in your Fringe Festival in 2017. What are your dates? How do we go about entering a potential performance? Robyn
Hi Robyn,
The 2017 dates are yet to be advised. I suggest you contact the organisers at [email protected] for entry details. I understand the organisers are on leave until 16th of Jan, so you will need to await a reply.
Best regards,
Jess
Hello, I am looking for a map of all the venues. The reason being that there is generally very limited parking and public transport is mostly ideal. There are 4 of us all needing to plan our own transport routes. It would be very helpful if such a map was available and tram route numbers also please.
Hi Faye,
The organisers have not produced a map of all the venues as there are around 100 venues in the CBD, Footscray, Frankston, Northcote and everywhere in between.
You can search all the shows here (left hand side of the page) and filter by location. If you need to work out public transport, I recommend you use the Journey Planner at the PTV website here which is very helpful to show trains, trams and buses available between two locations that you input.
Regards,
Jess
