Crown Oaks Day, also known as ‘Ladies Day’, is a popular thoroughbred horse race held yearly as part of the Spring Racing Carnival at Flemington Racecourse.
Formerly known as ‘Crown Oaks Day’, this race is always held on the Thursday after Cup Day on the 6th of November in 2025.
Oaks Day Melbourne 2025 Date, Ticket Price, Race Times & Dress Code
Each year, 100,000 people flock to Flemington Racecourse for Oaks Day. The racing highlight is the $1 million Group 1 Crown Oaks, which will see the best three-year-old staying fillies battle for victory in the ultimate test of their staying credentials.
The tradition of Crown Oaks Day is beauty, femininity, style, and grace. It’s a day on which the racegoer can embrace wonderment and escape the normal of a weekday. The style is not just for females; men take it up a notch, making it one of the best days for men to dress up and explore fashion.
Crown Oaks Race Day is a popular fashion event. Attendees dress in their Spring finest tailored suits for the men and colourful dresses, hats, and fascinators for the ladies. A ‘Fashion on the Fields’ event is held during Oaks Day, where prizes worth thousands of dollars are up for grabs. There is no dress code for general admission, so you can dress in neat, casual attire if you wish. However, most racegoers do dress up in suits and summer dresses.
Food and drinks can be purchased at the race track; however, many racegoers bring their picnic to the venue. Betting is a popular pastime, so bring some extra cash to place a bet on Australia’s biggest races.

I am holding an Oaks Day Charity Day on Thursday in Sydney and need to know the Race times as we have always held an Oaks Day Special for the ladies on a Race around 2-2.15pm It is often for Greys with about 14-15 horses in it.
I cannot see the new race times or lists showing the number of horses in the race, as we give all our guests 160 approximately a number to correspond with a horse number in the Race. Ladies holding the winners and runners up numbers win a bottle of wine.
Hi Colleen,
I think the most up to date list of race times and horse names can be found at one of the racing websites.
I just went through the official Oaks Day page on the Flemington website and that lead me to the page https://www.racing.com/form/2019-11-07/flemington.
I just checked the page there I could see all the race times and the horses running.
The race held at 2:15pm is the TCL TV Stakes, and has 14 horses running in it.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
Michael
Jodie
Hi i was wondering what the best color dresses, flowers, hats, and head pieces are the best color to where to lady’s day is please and where abouts the lady’s day parade is held thank you.
Hi Jodie,
Being a male, and not a very fashionable one at that, I don’t exactly have my finger on the pulse for female race day fashions.
Having listened to the news, apparently Melbourne Fashion Week has just started and tonight was the Opening Town Hall Runway, where they David Jones was “showcasing the latest in-store collections; including key spring trends and designer millinery to get you race ready.”
There doesn’t appear to be much coverage released online just yet, but i’d recommended following their Facebook and Instagram channels for updates:

Instagram:
As for where Fashions on the Field is located, it stated to be located at “The Park – an impressive two-story enclosure located in Flemington’s renowned fashion and entertainment quarter; situated on the hill behind the Flemington Grandstand”.
You can view more information on Fashions on the Field at https://www.melbournecupcarnival.com.au/2021/melbourne-cup-carnival/kennedy-oaks-day/ and more information on The Park at https://www.flemington.com.au/melbourne-cup-carnival/the-park.
Thanks
Michael
