Enjoy gourmet food and fresh pastries at the restaurants and convent bakery, saunter through the gardens or catch a film at the outdoor cinema when you visit Abbotsford Convent. Other facilities of interest include a radio station, a bedroom and a school.
Every year, the convent holds an array of art projects, showcases, festivals and market events. These will differ depending on the time of your visit, so it helps to make plans in advance. If you would like, you may take a special history tour of Abbotsford Convent that allows you access to the historical buildings.
The Convent holds a Farmers Market on the Fourth Sunday of the month from 8am to 1pm. There is a $2 entry fee which goes towards maintaining the convent, and you will find heaps of local produce with seasonal fruit, vegetables, flowers, herbs, bread, eggs, meat, condiments and cheese available for sale. The market is plastic bag free, so make sure you bring your own trolley or bags.
Weddings are permitted to be held at the Abbotsford Convent in the gardens, courtyard or function room. Contact Bursaria on (03) 9417 7771 or email [email protected] for all wedding enquiries.
Entry is free, but the Convent is only open to pedestrians. For this reason, parking is not available onsite, however, there is all day parking available in the car park across the road on St Heliers Street. Abbotsford Convent is easy to access from Melbourne’s CBD using public transport. Take a train on Hurstbridge Line or take a bus using route #200 or #207. You may also take Tram #109, #12 or #48 and alight at Victoria Street.
