Wantirna is a suburb of Melbourne which is located 24 kilometres east of the CBD. The suburb’s local government area is in the City of Knox. The suburb’s name is derived from a local Aboriginal word translated to mean ‘the bubbling stream’.
The region’s history dates back to 1840 when the first settler, Madeline Scott, constructed a cattle run on the banks of the nearby Dandenong Creek. In the years that followed, many more settlers set base in the region, allowing for the area to grow rapidly.
